Green Impact

In November 2017 we submitted our application to run the NUS Green Impact project at Bournemouth & Poole College. With lots of areas to focus on we are really excited to support in increasing volunteering, lowering the Colleges carbon footprint, highlighting what we already do and launching some exciting activities.

Last year we surveyed students and over 80% of you agreed that becoming Green is important and that it should be something we focus on! With your support we are now making this a big influence on what we do.

We have started with looking at ourselves. BPCSU coffee shops are now using compostable cups, lids and straws that biodegrade in less than a month which is amazing compared to 30+ years for some plastics! We are looking into how ethical our merchandise is and phasing our anything that isn’t made from sustainable materials.

In January our coffee shops became Fairtrade! Our coffee is certified as Fairtrade and the majority of the products we sell are also Fairtrade.

This includes our; Coffee beans, sugar and all muffins, cakes and brownies.

Our next step is to ensure all of our merchandise is Fairtrade and eco-friendly. We are phasing out any stock that does not comply with this and will be making sure that all future purchases of Tote Bags, Pens, Key rings and clothing are Fairtrade!

Keep your eyes peeled for progress made in 2018! We will be trying to focus on digital promotion to reduce paper use so check out our social media pages, digital signage and website for updates.
