A fantastic opportunity for 2nd+ Year Students …

Our College, like all other further education colleges, is a Corporation and has charitable status. It is governed by a Board of Governors. The Board currently consists of 14 members. These include two student members, one staff member and the Principal, as well as 10 members from local businesses and the local community. The Board members bring expertise, experience and local knowledge to the Board. Together they have the ultimate, legal responsibility for the operation and performance of The College and the Governance of its business.

Governance is about accountability for the use of other people’s money and public funds; ethics and values; transparent decision making and keeping to financial standards. It is also about setting the vision for The College and working with the Principal to deliver that vision.

There are 7 Board meetings per year – approximately one every 6 weeks. All are held on Thursdays, starting at 4pm and finishing at around 7.30pm, in addition there is one whole-day strategic planning session. Board members are expected to attend a minimum of 75% of these meetings. New Board members are also expected to attend induction and training sessions.

We are now looking to appoint our two Student Board Members for the academic year 2018-19, preferably one who is studying at Bournemouth and one who is studying at Poole (includes North Road and Fulcrum). Nominations are limited to current students continuing into a further year. By holding interviews in the last term of the year, it means that the new Student Board Members can take up their appointment from the beginning of the next academic year and also gives them the opportunity to ‘buddy’ with the current post holders to find out first-hand what being a Student Board Member is all about.

Nomination forms are available from The Link at North Road or the Lansdowne and the Fulcrum Cafeteria. They are also available to download and are attached to this post. If you are interested in putting yourself forward to be a Student Board Member in 2018-19, please complete a Nomination Form and send it, together with a supporting statement from your Tutor, to Marianne Barnard at North Road, Room 112a (or hand into Main Reception at North Road or the Lansdowne) by 12 noon on Thursday 3 May 2018.

Interviews will be held at Lansdowne site on Tuesday 15 May 2018.
