The Bournemouth Churches Housing Association [BCHA] is offering students a fantastic opportunity to get involved with one of their most important projects!

BCHA are opening and developing a Mental Health Café in their 40-bed homelessness hostel in Bournemouth. This will be based on the ground floor, with easy access for the community from St Pauls Lane. This will be open 24 hours per day, as a service which can offer a safe space provision for members of the community who are either in crisis, or in need of support or community outreach. The café will function day-to-day with hot food and baristas, with our homeless residents trained on customer service and drink/food production. The café will also be assisted by support workers, volunteers, and peer mentors, who can aid activities or support sessions for the customers.

BCHA is looking to utilise the creativity and vast array skills of College students to help in the production of this project. Initially students interested in the following skillsets are sought to attend a scoping session to help with the developmental phase:

  • Business and entrepreneurship
  • Interior Design
  • Health and social care
  • Psychology
  • Project management
  • Vocational Skills
  • Students who are on courses such as Painting, Decorating and Construction are also welcome to join us as we implement the next stage of production at the café
  • Catering and Hospitality

In addition, from September 2018 BCHA would like to set up a continuous volunteer programme to help run the café and develop any interests surrounding the following subjects:

  • Psychology
  • Health and Social Care
  • Counselling
  • Sociology
  • Catering and Hospitality
